WHAT WE WERE...

Rhythmical Empowerment Group

Gary Mason, former British Heavyweight boxing champion,
started the group as a 'not-for-profit' group to help people in
the community of all ages access the therapeutic benefits of
hand drumming using traditional African drums.

It promotes equality and diversity for the benefit of the public, promoting activities to foster understanding between people
from diverse back grounds by participation in an instinctive
ability in which all are able to participate.

Gary Mason and Cyroy Morgan combined to form an innovative, cutting edge collaboration, to bring together sport and culture. Working as a team to be able to motivate, inspire more people
to take part in physical activity within their local community;
and enhance the learning, skills and personal development of participants.

Since 2007, Gary has presented drumming workshops in many places including the following:

• All Saints Church, Carshalton
• All Saints Primary School, Carshalton

WHAT WE ARE NOW....

The Gary Mason Rhythmical Empowerment Charitable Foundation

This Charity was set up, in Gary’s Memory, with the approval of Gary’s family; to continue the work he had started in providing workshops using hand drums and other percussion instruments, giving participants the opportunity to learn these socially inclusive shared activities irrespective of age, race, creed and colour.

To encourage participation by those who are considered, or consider themselves to be, outside
the usual routes of artistic expression by offering workshops within their community free, or at low subsidised cost.

The Trustees are committed to continuing the work Gary started and will retain his ethos and vision for the future using rhythmical empowerment as the key to equality and diversity.
